Walter G. Strauss' Obituary
Walter G. Strauss, a resident of Shamong passed away on June 25th at the age of 71. Born in NYC in 1950 to Edwin and June Strauss, Walt grew up in Pearl River, NY. After graduating from Brockport University he returned to teach and coach in Pearl River then, changing careers, he worked at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company as a home office executive and at Admiral Insurance Company as Chief Underwriting Officer.
Walt loved history and visiting historic NJ sites in his Corvette. Most people recognize him by his mustache.
Walt’s passion was coaching baseball, first with his best friend and then with his son, for the Tabernacle (NJ) Athletic Association for more than 12 years where they guided many teams to state titles. After retiring from coaching Walt continued to follow the baseball careers of his former players, his friends children and grandchildren.
Walt is survived by his son, Chris Strauss, his daughter, Chelsea Strauss and TJ Strauss, six grandchildren and Joyce Flynn, his partner of twenty two years.
Relatives and friends are invited to Walt’s Life Celebration on Thursday, July 7th 11:00am-1:00pm at Givnish Funeral Home of Marlton, 398 E. Main St. Family and friends sharing will follow at 1:00pm.
