William John Buchanan, age 71, passed away on November 26, 2020. Born in Phila. to Catherine (Hunter) and William Joseph Buchanan July 14, 1949. Raised in Kensington in Phila. PA, resided 20 years in Cinnaminson NJ, and most recently in Bristol Borough, PA.
Although his passing was unrelated to covid19, the family was unable to have friends come to pay respects and only family attended a private church service. Now, however, we can celebrate Bill's life together with friends on Saturday, July 17th, at Givnish Funeral Home 1200 Rt. 130N, Cinnaminson NJ. Friends may call from 9am-11am after which there will be short service and burial of the urn at Lakeview Memorial Park.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia Buchanan (nee Bussmann) for 33 years. He was the loving father of Brian Buchanan (Chris), Leanna Ridgway (Kevin), Ian Buchanan (Lauren) and Marisa Moore. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Michael, Kelly, Maddox, Kieran, Justin, brother Donald Buchanan, nieces Jennifer Nunez (Lawrence), Amy Ruth Schickling (James), nephew Joseph Bussmann Jr. (Patricia), and brother-in-law Joseph Bussmann Sr.
Bill was a 1967 graduate of Mastbaum Vo-Tech where he was music major and played the cello and saxophone. After graduation he went into the carpentry apprentice program and worked in construction prior to teaching. Bill earned his bachelors' degree from Temple University and returned to his alma mater, Mastbaum, where he taught carpentry/building construction for 30 plus years. Bill was proud of his Scottish heritage and was a connoisseur of Scotch whiskey. He loved to travel and build things for people in his shop. He was always ready to help folks and volunteered in many ways; from chaperoning Mastbaum proms and class trips to driving folks from a nearby nursing home to church on Sundays and building a bathroom and bookshelves at a men's mission among others. Bill loved to joke and tell stories and made friends wherever he went. He traveled to many countries and places but his favorites were Scotland and Islamorada in the Florida Keys.
Bill's family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org.
