William G. Hinkley's Obituary
Hinkley
After several years of declining health, William G. Hinkley, previously of Cinnaminson and more recently of Moorestown, NJ, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, NJ. Born November 19, 1930, in Newburgh, NY, Bill had just celebrated his 86th birthday at a family gathering held in his honor on Saturday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan, his infant son William III, and his granddaughter, Catie Nicola. His two younger brothers, Joe and Jim, also predeceased him, as did his mother-in-law, Catherine Litterer, with whom he shared a warm relationship and a love of sports.
In the hours before his death, Bill was surrounded by his four daughters: Patrice Hinkley Nicola (Alan) of Delanco, Denise J. Bittle (Michael) of Cherry Hill, Catherine A. Vance (Kevin) of Yardley, PA, and Joyce E. Hinkley of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Emily E. Nicola of Riverside.
Bill’s high school years at St. Mary’s in Elizabeth, NJ were highlighted by his talents as an athlete, particularly baseball, football and basketball. He served in the US Army in Korea, returning after three years to marry Joan on Thanksgiving Day, 1953. The couple then moved to Davenport, IA where Bill obtained his degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. In subsequent years Bill purchased a majority interest in Acme Heat Treating in Philadelphia, PA, from which he retired in 1983. Bill and Joan enjoyed a decade of motor home travels before purchasing a winter home in Pharr, TX, the primary benefit of which was for Bill to be able to play senior softball in the off-season, then return to NJ in time for the summer season to start here.
Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Bill’s life on Sunday, December 4, 2016 starting at 11:30 a.m. at Snover Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route N. with services to begin at noon, followed by a lunch gathering nearby. To share your fondest memory of Bill please visit www.Givnish.com
