William J. Lawrence's Obituary
William J. Lawrence, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday , September 17, 2019.
Bill graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 1948. He served as a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force stationed overseas during the Korean War 1952-53. Bill earned a Bachelors in Engineering from Villanova and a Masters in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
He married the love of his life, Frances Shields, on September 7, 1957 and lost her on August 31, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. His unmeasured dedication and incredible patience exemplified his love for his wife of almost 57 years. Together, they competed in bowling leagues, played bridge, golfed, vacationed, and enjoyed their grandchildren.
Bill worked as a manager for naval ship communications products with RCA and then GE for 36 years.
He was actively involved at St. Charles Borromeo Church; serving as an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister, carnival chairperson and annual volunteer. He visited sick and isolated friends, neighbors, and parishioners, provided rides to appointments, and a compassionate ear.
His other interests included volunteering at Catholic Charities, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Fairways Golf and Westfield Leas boards.
Bill is survived by his six children: Susan Eitnier (Jim), Teri Niedermayer (Joe), Jeanne (Kim), Bill, Mike (Janet) and Ed (Natalie). His grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah and Peter (Kelsey) Eitnier, Laura, Monica, Jeff (Chrissy) and Jenna Niedermayer, Johnathon and Cody Lawrence, Katie and Kara Lawrence, and two great grandsons, Landon and Maverick.
Friends and relatives are invited to Bill’s Life Celebration on Saturday, September 21st at Saint Charles Borromeo Church located on Branch Pike in Cinnaminson from 9-10:45 am, followed by his funeral mass at 11:00.
