My condolences to Bill's family. We were neighbors as children and his grandmother worked for my parents in their deli for many years. So sad to hear of his passing.

Bill has been one of my closest friends since we first met each other in 7th grade. I was fortunate to have watched him play sports in high school, get married, become a father, and grow into a strong, caring, faithful person. We had plenty of laughs, long discussions, and several tears together along the road, but Bill always wanted to know how I was doing before I could ask him the same – he truly was a lifelong, dear friend.
Toward the end of his life, we would try and get together more regularly. As the months passed by, it became increasingly more difficult for Bill to venture out, but as long as he could still walk, he wanted to get out and grab lunch together. I was simply amazed by his outlook on his situation. On one particular occasion, I asked him how he was coping with everything. He said he was experiencing mixed emotions – on the one hand, he was going to miss his family immensely, as they meant everything to him and he knew all the things he would miss out on. However, on the other hand, he was excited to see his parents again and knew, eventually, he would be with his family again for eternity. As we hugged goodbye after that lunch, I could feel his inner strength pouring out trying to battle the disease that was taking his body away.
To Bill’s family, know that he is out of pain now. You were all blessed to have had a wonderful father, friend, brother, and uncle, and I truly was lucky to count him a friend. Bill – I’ll miss you but know some day we’ll be laughing together again. I love you buddy.

To Bill's family, i'm very sad about Bill's passing. I met Bill through my late friend Ed Hinkel just about 10-12 years ago. When i would visit Ed in New Jersey i would always get to see and hang out with Bill Winton. We hit it off from the start and he always made me feel welcome and as if he had known me for a lifetime. When we met in Jersey or talked on the phone Bill would always start the conversation with, "How's things in Boooooston"?
I'll never forget our get together six months ago when Bill & Sean made the trip north to Boston which included visiting Gloucester, having a lobster feed at my house with my wife and kids and a trip to Cape Cod. I know it was difficult for Bill and took a lot of effort for Sean to make the trip happen but i'm so thankful to you Sean that we had that time together in one of my favorite places in the world.
I hope your at peace and free of any pain Bill. When you get together with our friend Ed at the big bar in Heaven remember all the fun times and the close bond we all shared.
Thank You Bill for being the person you are and for having me as your friend!
I love you and will never forget you!
