Art Dugan, resident of Maple Shade, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2014. Art was almost 90 and had lived in town since 1948 with his revered wife Ivy. He is survived by his loving children, Connie, Dan (wife, Kathy), and Cynth Read Obituary
Dan & Kathy, Connie, Cynthia, Cathryn, Rory & Alexandra: Not sure if my first condolence submitted correctly. I was so sorry when I read of your father's passing while catching up on last week's papers. You all are a tribute to your mom & dad. Such a nice family. I can remember a time when you hosted a Christmas get-together at your parents' house when Lauren was very young. She was mesmerized by your dad's train set. You could tell what love he put into each & every piece of that set. It was totally awesome. I know exactly how you all are feeling since we lost my dad this past September. I have known the Dugans for 60+ years and lived up the street for the first 11 of them till my parents and I moved to Reading. We have remained friends for all this time, which is very rare. I remember Uncle Dugan playing the piano and my Dad playing the guitar at their all night New Year's Eve parties, going on summer vacations as a group to Wildwood Crest and the famous trip to the Poconos where we were hunted down as " The Fosslers". He made beautiful and clever things out of wood and always made me laugh. He will be sorely missed by us all. Rest in peace, dear Uncle Dugan { as I always called him} Love, Carol Sumner
Cindy, I was just thinking about the Christmas trains on the platform and how nice it was being a part of your dad's Christmas traditions. I have very fond memories of those days. Also remembering the time you and I decided to dress up like aliens for Halloween and your dad was helping us spray paint our shoes silver. I think your dad wanted to make sure it was done correctly that's why he took over the project. Of course only Mr. Dugan could spray paint those shoes to look like Manolo's. Great memories, Cindy.
I grew up across the street from the Dugans. Cynthia and I were always playing "Olympics" in the summer time out in the yard on the balance beam that Art made for us. As I grew older it was always a special moment to see him going and coming from playing golf. When my mother passed away and our family saw a great period of strife Art and Ivy stood in support of my sister and I and I will never forget their love and kindness. Art was like a second father to me and I am so very thankful to have had him as a part of my life. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
My sister and I were visiting our old home in Maple Shade last summer and I took a chance and knocked on Art's door. We lived directly across the street from each other and Connie and I were best friends. We even shared a "party line" together....for you young folks that means when the phone rings, the pattern of the ring tells you who should answer! We as a family shared many picnics and fun times together. I was so delighted to see Art who looked great and enjoyed his eagerness talking about the forthcoming wedding of his granddaughter in Maine where I am presently living. I am so saddened by his sudden passing and my heart goes out to his whole family. He truly was a gentle man!
I loved the sweet way "Pop Pop" had with kids. I have so many fond memories of him playing with Alexandra and Julia when they were little. I especially loved when he played "Pretty Pretty Princess" with them. I loved it when we went bowling and mineature golfing with him, he had such patience with the girls and always made me laugh. I also loved it when we would come and visit you and he came over to say hello to us. He was truly a gentleman and we will miss him.

I am on Art's bowling team on Monday mornings. Not only was he fun to bowl with, but he was always courteous and helpful to me. He had a kind word for me when I missed an easy shot. He had my full respect and I will miss him very much. It was truly an honor calling him my partner.
