Arthur J. Dugan's Obituary
Art Dugan, resident of Maple Shade, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2014. Art was almost 90 and had lived in town since 1948 with his revered wife Ivy. He is survived by his loving children, Connie, Dan (wife, Kathy), and Cynthia and his adoring grandchildren, Cathryn, Rory, and Alexandra. He was known and loved by neighbors, friends, parishioners, bowling and golf buddies and store owners. He was a longtime “pillar of the church” at OLPH.
Art was a veteran of WWII, a self-taught piano player, carpenter, builder, and furniture and toy maker for his family. He was particularly known among the neighborhood children and his nieces, nephews, and their children for three generations for his Christmas train platform that he lovingly put up each year for the little ones. After retiring from the Atlantic Refinery in South Philly, he found his life’s calling as the greatest PopPop in the world to his grandchildren. Always a suit and tie gentleman—and a gentle man—he was the Dugan family patriarch and the last of his generation. With a kind word and willingness to help anyone in need, he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Art’s viewing at Inglesby/Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 East Main St. on Tuesday from 6 - 9 pm, and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main St., Maple Shade, on Wednesday from 10 – 11 am. His funeral Mass will follow at 11 am, with interment at Calvary Cemetery, Route 70 in Cherry Hill. Donations in Art’s name may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at the above address.
