George J. Zitzler's Obituary
George Joseph Zitzler, of Delran, passed away on December 21st, 2023, he was 76. Born in Rockaway, NY, to the late George Albert Zitzler and the late Rita Zitzler (nee Schuchardt). Devoted husband to Maryellen (nee Karnincic). Loving father to George Eric Zitzler, Mark Zitzler, Juliann Hawkins (Brandon), and Jason Zitzler. Beloved Pop-Pop to Jaxon, Payton, and Dominic. Cherished brother to Annie Stewart and Kurt Zitzler. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
George’s father was in the United States Air Force and as a child his family lived in France and various bases along the East Coast of the United States. After High School, George served in the United States Navy. He met the love of his life Maryellen in 1972. They were married in 1973 and settled in Delran where they have lived for over 50 years and recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. George graduated from Trenton State and later went on to complete his Masters Degree there as well.
George taught Industrial Arts at Hightstown High School for 30 plus years. George and Maryellen took their children on many vacations and had a love for camping. They traveled across the country out to California, up to Canada and down to Florida. He enjoyed watching his children play sports and took pride in their various accomplishments throughout the years. George greatly enjoyed being “Pop-Pop” as he was affectionately called.
George was an active member of Resurrection Parish where he was part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. George was also an active member of the American Legion, the South Jersey Real Estate Investors Association, and the Vegetarian Society of South Jersey.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, January 2nd, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Name – Resurrection Parish, located at 260 Conrow Road, Delran, NJ, 08075. Immediately following the viewing, there will be a funeral mass starting at 10:30 a.m. also at the church. Following mass, burial will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, located at 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ, 08562.
