I am so saddened to read of the passing of this amazing man. Tremendous karate instructor. He could quickly size up any student and give him tailored exercises. "Same thing, only different." We were so blessed to have trained with him.
Gerald (Ski) was my best friend and sensei. Life had gotten in the way and we had fallen out of touch, but I thought of him often. He taught me so much about Martial arts and his way at looking at life. I thought of him as not only a friend and sensei, but as a second father. We hung out Friday nights playing chess, talking and joking while he sipped on Johnnie Walker Red. He is missed.
Gerald was always Ski to me and many in the world of Skotokan Karate. He was my Sensei since 1988. Outside Karate Ski was my best fried and helped me with many things including my properties and my work. Always ready a moments notice I could always depend on Gerald. My favorite memory is of him is feeding the ducks and fish in the lake behind my home.
I had fallen out of touch with Ski. He was my great friend and touched so many people in a good way. I wasn’t surprised to find his obituary but was saddened there were no comments, that Gerald who was loved by so many may have been alone at the end. Hopefully I just didn’t know about a memorial. Ski was my neighbor for a few years. We moved, but still have one of his benches outside our house. Always enjoyed speaking with him about karate and woodworking.
