James T. Vernile's Obituary
James T. Vernile, Esquire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Born in Boston to the late James P. and Mary (née Capriola) Vernile, Jim was 79 years old.
Beloved husband of 40 years to Janice (née Gaspari) Vernile; loving father of Nicole (Tim) Flanagan; and cherished Pop-Pop to Jade. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Rich Knight, and was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joe Gaspari. He was a devoted Godfather to Nick Gaspari, Jojo Gaspari, and Nicholas Menear.
Jim attended Upper Darby High School, earned his Bachelor of Arts from City College of New York, and later graduated from University of Pennsylvania Law School with his Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He practiced law for more than 30 years at the Law Office of James T. Vernile, located at One Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia, where his office overlooked the city from the 55th floor. Specializing in personal injury law allowed Jim to help others during their times of need while putting his legal degree and brilliant mind to meaningful use.
Jim was a loyal and cherished family member and friend. He was always willing to offer support, guidance, and encouragement to those in need. Whether providing legal advice, being present for a friend, or showing genuine interest in others, Jim made himself available to everyone. He was truly a selfless man with a generous heart of gold.
Jim and Janice lived in Media, Pennsylvania, for more than 30 years, where they built lifelong friendships. More recently, they moved to Cinnaminson to be closer to Nicole, Tim, and Jade. Jim especially enjoyed time at his summer home in Ventnor, where he welcomed visits from family and friends, cruised along the boardwalk to the Ventnor pier, and made frequent trips to his favorite ice cream shop.
