I had the pleasure of meeting Joe, "Papa Joe," about ten years ago in Jacksonville. We became fast friends because my name is Lisa, he always spoke of how much he loved his daughter Lisa. I also met my husband during this time. My own father passed away 13 years prior to this, after losing his battle with prostate cancer. Joe treated me like a daughter and gave my future, now husband of ten years, the Nth degree. My husband is a former seaman as well. It meant so much to know a father like figure at this time in my life. I only spoke to Papa Joe a few times over the last ten years, but he left a lifelong impression in our hearts. I found this obituary tonight while searching to see what he was up to these days. I am saddened to hear of his passing, and more so for those that knew this amazing person longer and more frequently. Thank you for being there when I needed my hand shook, money took... Y'all know the rest I'm sure.
