Dr. Latifatu M. Ojo's Obituary
Dr. Latifatu Mojisola Ojo affectionately known as Lati, passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2026 at the tender age of 32. She was born on December 8th, 1993 in Lagos Nigeria to Mercy Daniel Ebong and the late Alhaji Yinusa Kolawole Ojo. Lati spent her early years in Lagos, attending The Strides School in Ilupeju and Caleb International College in Magodo, both in Lagos State. At Caleb International College, Lati developed a passion for writing. She authored poems and short stories and used writing as a way to find her voice.
As a 16-year-old in Nigeria, Lati knew she wanted to attend high school in the US. With the support of her family, she matriculated to LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI. There she cultivated her love for music by singing in the chorus and honed her skills in persuasion by competing in Debate Club.
From La Salle Academy, Lati went on to complete her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where she majored in Biology. She flourished there. At UMBC Lati balanced working many hours as a Pharmacy Technician at CVS Pharmacy, had a thriving cleaning business, participated in the African Student Association, the Pre-Pharmacy Student Association, the STEM club, and research training programs. She pursued these activities all while remaining relentlessly committed to her studies.
Resolute in her desire to be a pharmacist since high school, Lati earned her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Temple University School of Pharmacy. In recognition of her outstanding scholarship and intellectual leadership at Temple, Lati was inducted into Rho Chi, the Pharmacy honor society for graduate students at the top of their class. Always committed to giving back, Lati also participated in various service activities at Temple, including fundraising with her classmates to support the education of indigenous girls in Guatemala.
Eager to be educated at the highest level of her profession, Lati decided to pursue a 2-year post graduate residency training in primary and critical care. She received her ovarian cancer diagnosis in the midst of her residency journey, but with her characteristic tenacity and strength, refused to let the diagnosis deter her goals. She successfully completed a residency journey that began at Holy Cross in Maryland and concluded at Capital Health in New Jersey in July 2025. After many years of training to be the best professional she could be, Lati launched her career in professional practice as a Pharmacist at Select Medical Willingboro while continuing to balance ongoing cancer treatments.
Lati had a robust spiritual life. She attended Redeemed Christian Church of God Tabernacle of Faith where she was baptized in the fall of 2025. Just 6 years earlier at the same church, she publicly affirmed her faith in Jesus on December 31st 2019. The night before Lati passed away, she spent time in prayer with her mother and brother, listened to a sermon on healing and partook of what would become her last communion.
Lati was greatly cherished and is survived by her mother Mercy, brother Teslim, and a whole host of family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Latifatu's viewing on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at Givnish Funeral Homes, located at 1200 US Rt. 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ, 08077, from 9am-10am, followed by a 10am funeral ceremony. Lati will be laid to rest in Odd Fellows Cemetery of Burlington, NJ, immediately following the ceremony.
