Mala Sharmella Siew-Narine (September 24, 1968 – July 18, 2024)
Mala Siew-Narine, DMD, 55 years old of Delran, New Jersey passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 surrounded by her sisters.
Mala was born on September 24, 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica, the second daughter of Mannie & Lillian (nee Mangroo) Siew-Narine (both deceased). An alumna of Campion College, she graduated from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Zoology and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA. She furthered her training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ where she completed both a General Practice Residency and a Fellowship in General Practice.
Dr. Narine, as she was fondly known, practiced dentistry for over 26 years in Browns Mills and Pennsauken, NJ. She was much loved by her patients. Mala loved spending time in her garden, reading, collecting cookbooks, attending the theater and cooking for her family and friends. She is survived by her sisters Jankie Cohen, Visha Siew-Narine and Malini Siew-Narine; nephew Adrian McHargh; nieces Marissa Somers and Waverly Cohen. She leaves behind many extended family members, friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Resurrection Parish Catholic Church, 260 Conrow Road Delran, NJ 08075 on Friday, August 16, 2024, visitation beginning at 9:30, mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial luncheon immediately after. A private interment will follow at a later date in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
