Maria Alvarez's Obituary
Our beloved mother, Maria Alvarez, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 91.
Maria was born on February 19, 1934, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, to the late Avelino Alvarez and Mariana Rojas. Over the years, she made her home in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey before eventually settling in Florida.
A devoted and hardworking mother, Maria raised nine children, often working from home as a seamstress to help provide for her family. She also worked in various factories, making jewelry, rugs, and stuffed animals. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and her greatest joy came from spending weekends cooking and gathering with her loved ones.
Maria was deeply involved in her church and community, supporting numerous charities and helping with fundraising efforts. Her kind heart and free-spirited personality earned her the love and admiration of many friends.
She enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts, and visits to the casino. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Vera; her sons, George and Jose; and her stepson, Jay.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sergio (Ana Maria), Luis (Juanita), William (Kathy), Elizabeth, Maria, Margaret, and Rose (Aurelio). She also leaves behind her stepdaughters, Milagros and Miriam, as well as many cherished grandchildren: Sergio Jr., Hannah, Serghio, David, Felix, Millie, Georgina, George, Georgie, Sandy, Veronica, Diane, Joanne, Jeanette, William Jr., Amy, Katie, Thomas, Monica, Christina, and Brian Jr.
Maria was blessed to be both a great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother—something she never imagined she’d live to see, but which brought her immense joy.
Mom, you will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
