Norma G. Hunter's Obituary
Norma G. Hunter (nee Gerkens) passed away suddenly on February 2, 2015. Born in Camden, NJ to Frank E. and Jennie Gerkens, Norma was 70 years old.
She was a resident of Riverton, NJ and Long Beach Island, NJ.
Norma was a graduate of Merchantville High School and Syracuse University. After graduate school at Indiana University, she taught mathematics at Hanover College. She was a mathematician/engineer for L3 of Camden, NJ for 30 years. Norma was a 30-year member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. She taught boating courses, as a Vessel Examiner gave safety inspections of vessels, and piloted her Cessna 172 on USCG missions over the New Jersey coast. She served as Flotilla Commander and many other posts in the USCGAux. She was a sailor, cyclist, swimmer and aviator. She was selected as an Outstanding Woman of Burlington County and a member of the Riverton Porch Club.
Beloved wife of 45 years to John Bockett Hunter.
Sister of Robert F. Gerkens.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Norma’s Life Celebration and viewing Saturday 11-12 noon at Inglesby/Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 East Main Street. Sharing of memories will follow at 12 p.m.
