What a great man!!! I loved talking o him about the story of the Clan, McDougall , Yale, and history. I never heard him play there banjo, but I bet he played it beautifully. (Now I am inspired to try to learn to play it myself.)
He was just so obviously a soulful, deep- thinking person. And funny too.
Scrappy as well. As his son, Scott tells me his dad told him to 'punch the other kid in the nose', when he was being picked on as a boy. So stand up and fight when you have to. So while he was learned gentleman, he was still tough and stubborn, exactly what a s Scotsman should be!
He loved his years at Yale. Definitely, one of the greatest institutions of learning. Surely, he knew he was part of something greater than us all when he was there. Those great halls make us feel that, filled with the voices of great young minds that were there before him.
I did not know him long but I know I was in the presence of a Scottish- American great as soon as I met him.
We are all going to miss you, Mr. Peter McDougall. You are so very loved.
