Shirley Hoey
She loved her bananas. She loved to make soup for Fritz. She loved to walk each day during her lunch break. She loved to play the piano in the auditorium at school during lunch for everyone to enjoy. She was always worried it was not healthy for her and I to be teaching in the small run off room all day long with all the nasty fumes. She was a colleague, friend plus a “mother” to me, always trying to give me advice on how to raise my kids the right way.
My favorite time with Rose was spending time with her after school talking with her while she waited for Fritz to pick her up in their electric car. She enjoyed sharing many stories about her family, especially her grandchildren and how proud she was of each one of them. After she retired, I enjoyed visiting her at her home and listening to many more stories about her family. She loved looking at pictures of her family on a slide show and she shared stories about each one. Loosing Fritz was very hard on her. Loosing Kathy was worse because she said it just wasn’t fair. She was so very thankful for her son, saying he was the best son ever.
I will miss Rose very much and I will always remember all the good, sincere guidance she gave me. May you rest in peace, my dear friend!
