Roy S. Hansen's Obituary
Roy S. Hansen, Sr., of Palmyra, NJ, passed away on March 16th, 2023, at the age of eighty. Roy was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Roy Hansen and the late Ester Hansen (nee Speizio). Beloved husband to Rosemary (nee Raiguel). Loving father to Roy Hansen, Jr. (Susan) and Steven Hansen (Linda). Cherished grandfather to Roy III, Blake, Grant, Steven Jr., and Victoria. Cherished brother to Denny (Joann) and the late Carol.
After leaving Brooklyn, Roy’s family settled in Medford, NJ. Roy served in the United States Navy from 1963 through 1967, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Service Ribbon and Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Roy returned to Medford and married Rosemary in 1968, and had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past February. His working career after the Navy began by working alongside his father and brother in the drywall and construction industry. Roy later transitioned into the air freight industry in a sales operations role before moving into sales. He finished his career at Morrison Express where he managed international air freight as their National Sales Manager, a role that enabled Roy and Rosemary to travel internationally making many great memories. Upon his retirement from Morrison Express, he worked for the Cinnaminson School District driving school buses for approximately 15 years, where he made lasting friendships. But according to Roy, the best part of that job was interacting with so many children over those years, becoming affectionately known as “Mr. Roy.”
Roy had a few passions. He was very handy and could fix just about anything (if he got around to doing it). He was lifelong New York Giants and New York Mets fan (this was tough in Southern New Jersey) and passed his love for the New York Giants on to both of his sons. Roy also enjoyed camping with Rosemary. There were numerous family camping trips over the years to many different places, locally there were many trips to Turkey Swamp in Freehold, NJ. Additionally, for several years they would tow the camper and spend about a month during the summers in Thousand Islands New York. It is no surprise he was able to develop friends that they would look forward to seeing each summer.
Family and Friends are invited to visitation on Friday March 24th from 4:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., at Givnish Funeral Home, located at 1200 Route 130 North in Cinnaminson, NJ. Following the visitation there will be a Memorial Service starting at 6:45 p.m., also at the funeral Home.
