Shirley was a dear, dear soul.
This is a profound loss as I navigate all that Shirley taught me :
I met Shirley while signing up for a sewing class in adult education at a local high school .
The very next year … Shirley said , “ I’m not going to teach the class …. I’ll just teach you !”
We became fast friends.
Our love for sewing , creating , gardening , flowers was equally shared.
I wore my mom’s wedding dress for my wedding but Shirley and I refitted the bodice and designed and made all my bridesmaids dresses.
I went on to sew all my home fabrics - curtains, bedding, children’s clothing .
I still sew today - for my entire family - whom depend on me - because “laurie can do it “.
This is a gift .
During survival mode of family life -children , family illness, caretaking … Shirley and I would see each other less often.
I have always thought of Shirley so fondly and will treasure my memories
