Stephen D. Morgan's Obituary
Stephen D. Morgan (80) passed away peacefully on November 30, 2017 at Samaritan Hospice, Voorhees, NJ surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, DC on August 29, 1937 to Alvin & Gertrude (Ludwig) Morgenstein. Stephen graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School (DC) 1954, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, BS 1958, Columbia University School of Law, JD 1962 and Columbia University, MBA 1962. Beloved husband of 38 years to Peggy (Bowater), loving father of Scott, Keith (Hope), Ken (Suzanne) and Darin (Jamie). Grandfather of Amanda, Harrison, Allison, Rebecca, Max, Melissa, Nate and Maya. Brother of Susan Heyman (Michael White), Norman Morgenstein and the late Melvin Morgenstern. Steve practiced law in Cherry Hill for over 50 years; when asked about his work, he always said “I love what I do.” Steve’s sons have been a great source of joy and pride; he loved seeing the men and fathers that his “boys” had grown to be. He adored his grandchildren and was intensely proud of their personal and educational achievements. Steve traveled extensively and often commented that he had taken dozens of “trips of a lifetime.” When traveling he was often seen engaged with local children and, although they shared no common language, he would make them laugh as they chased the soap bubbles he blew. He enjoyed nature and wildlife, which were the focus of many of his trips. He was an Emeritus member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Zoo and remained involved in the growth and development of the Zoo. He enjoyed his many friendships among members of the Board and Staff at the Zoo. Steve was passionate about education and has worked for many years to provide educational enrichment programs to inner-city children through the Philadelphia Zoo and Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. He believed deeply that stirring a child’s interest in nature and the outdoors could be the foundation for a future of curiosity and learning. Funeral services are private at Steve’s request. Shiva will be observed on Sunday from 4-9 p.m. at the home of Keith and Hope Morgan, 153 Lucerne Blvd., Cherry Hill, NJ and Monday from 4-9 p.m. at the home of Darin and Jamie Morgan, 1025 Red Oak Dr., Cherry Hill. Please make memorial contributions to Samaritan HealthCare & Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Marlton, NJ 08053 800-229-8183 www.samaritannj.org. They took amazing care of Steve in his final hours and were a great comfort to his family.
